Please register your sons by December 1 through the normal Woodstock Basketball Association registration process. The 1st/2nd grade program will be administered by the Woodstock Recreation Department. Skills Nights will be held in December based on gym availability, which has yet to be determined. A draft will be conducted in the latter part of December; teams will meet and begin playing games in January, again based on gym availability.
The 1st/2nd graders will use a junior size ball (one size smaller than a girls ball) and will play at 8 feet baskets.
The Woodstock Youth Boys Basketball league (WYBBL) started 4 years ago with a vision of preparing young men for their journey into competitive sports. In those 4 years, we have watched this league increase in numbers from 90 boys, approximately 10 teams, the first year, to 290 boys, 33 teams, this year. This not only shows me that this program was much needed in this town, but the love, passion, commitment and willingness of these young men to learn is overwhelming.
Coming from a town much smaller than Woodstock, basketball provided the opportunity for younger kids to look up to the high school basketball players. These boys became their role models and gave them the inspiration to become a high school basketball player someday. In recent conversation, my son was able to put it to me perfectly, “we practice to improve, and we play for the love of the game”.
